REVIEW: Not Nuts! Beach Bash

Enjoy Life Foods Not Nuts! Beach Bash

Oh my goodness! I can't begin to tell you how happy I am right now! As you might know, I have an anaphalaxtic allergy to tree nuts, soy, sesame and more. Therefore, it has always been impossible to buy premade trail mix. It was always filled with "off-limits" foods. Until now.

Enjoy Life Foods has created a trail mix that is gluten-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, tree nut-free, egg-free, soy-free, sesame-free and sulfite-free. (It is also free of fish and shellfish!) Can you imagine? A trail mix that doesn't have bits of crackers or nuts or peanuts or, well, you get the point. It is safe for us to eat!

Now you might be wondering what the heck is in this trail mix. Here are the ingredients:

  • Raw Sunflower Kernels

  • Dried Pineapple

  • Roasted Huled Pumpkin Seeds

  • Dried Cranberries

  • Dried Apricots
  • When I first scanned the ingredients, I was excited. It is almost impossible to find dried fruits (I'm lookin' at you dried pineapples!) that don't contain "may contain nuts" warning labels. So, I don't get to enjoy dried fruits often. Plus, I love sunflower kernels. I excitedly opened the bag.

Heaven! This might sound silly but the dried fruits tastes really, really fresh. You know how dried fruits can sometimes get leathery and tasteless? Not these dried fruits! They were so good! My only (tiny) complaint about the dried fruit selection was that the bits of dried apricot are really small and there are only a few per bag.

Rounding out the dried fruit selection were crunchy sunflower kernels and pumpkin seeds. These provided a nice balance to the sweetness of the dried fruit--especially the lightly salted pumpkin seeds. Again, little (tiny) complaint here. I wish there were more pumpkin seeds. While I LOVE sunflower kernels, they get a little lost among the large pieces of dried fruit. For my taste, I would like a little more crunch in this trail mix.

Even with those two gripes, I really like this trail mix. It will be coming with me when I travel or maybe tucked into my purse when I go to the movies.

Summary: Allergen-Free Trail Mix. Sweet with lots of dried fruits and slightly crunchy from pumpkin seeds and sunflower kernels. Could use a bit more salty-crunch. Excellent for travel.

    Grade: A
